FIRE Homeschool Family Camp History

FIRE Camp was birthed in 2004 by the heart and vision in Heather & Jim Idoni. For 2 years they carried and nurtured FIRE Camp into a wonderful season of fellowship for homeschool families. In 2006, with much support from the Idoni’s, Vicki & Kevin Hughes were blessed to be given the opportunity to run with the FIRE Camp vision under their ministry, Chrysalis Family Ministries. FIRE Camp is run with a vision for Fellowship, Inspiration, Refreshment & Encouragement for Christian homeschool families. FIRE Camp is not run for a profit. Every penny is sowed right back into the camp events and activities.

What were past camps like?

FIRE Camp 2004 – coming soon

FIRE Camp 2005 – coming soon

FIRE Camp 2006: Our theme was On the Prairie Trail with Speakers Skeet Savage, her son Israel Wayne and daughter, Mercy Hope of Wisdom’s Gate (publisher’s of The Homeschool Digest). Our main event was building covered wagons.

FIRE Camp 2007: Our theme was The truth of Creation with Mike Riddle of Answers in Genesis as our speaker. We dug out “dinosaurs” during our first year at FaHoLo campground.

FIRE Camp 2008: Our theme was Discovering our Biblical Heritage with James Whitman, a homeschool Dad and the director of The Center for Judaic-Christian Studies as our speaker. For our main event activity, we built furniture pieces.

FIRE Camp 2009: We took a year off and had a Family Reunion Picnic Day at Meyer’s Lake Campground.

FIRE Camp 2010: Our theme is Priorities.

FIRE Camp  – Boarding – Meals – Events – Insurance

Please read all policies carefully. We are not responsible for what you did not take the time to read.

This is a camp for the whole family. We do not host children without a parent/legal guardian.

Camp is going to be held at Faholo Campground in GrassLake, MI.

In the past we have had a Family Pass to cover all the events and activities we host. This year, in an attempt to make this time of fellowship affordable to all families, we will not be charging a fee (aside from the cost of your room or campsite, meals and insurance) but instead we will be taking a love offering. In the past we tried to keep our Family Pass cost to $200 per family. If you are able to contribute to camp monetarily, it will help us secure our meeting space, activities, and a speaker. For a list of current secured activities visit our 2010 FIRE Camp Activities page.

Insurance is $10 per person. The campground requires us to secure an insurance policy which covers each person in attendance from our group  regardless if they participate in our events and activities.

Total invoice balance will include Family Camp Insurance, Lodging & Meal Plans (if applicable). The campground requires us to collect all the room/campsite and meal fees and to send a deposit to them. ALL reservations (including pre paid meal cards and lodging) will go through FIRE camp.

What exactly is your cost?    Room/Campsite + Meals (if having campground provided meals) + $10 per person for Insurance + Love Offering (if you are able to) = Your Total

Room, campsite, and meal prices listed at the bottom of this page.

Camp deposits go toward your room or campsite fee. A deposit of  $50 is due within 1 week of receiving your invoice. (If your total due is less then $50 then the full amount is due.)  By May 15th, 2010  50% of total balance is due. (New registrations as of May 15th will be required to put $50 plus 50% of remaining balance as a deposit.) 100% balance payment due by July 10th. (We need to do this to pay the campground.)

All fees are 100% non refundable. Camp fees are transferable to another family for the same week until May 15th, 2010. No exceptions please.

All fees may be paid by check, money order or credit card. Bounced checks will be charged $30. Credit card orders are charged an additional 4% to cover our processing charges from PayPal.

Invoices will be sent within 1 week of registration. Credit Card orders will be sent a request for payment via PayPal. Payments are due within 7 days of invoicing. If minimum payments are not made within 7 days of invoicing or if the 50% and/or 100% due dates are not paid on time, your registration will be canceled and you will not be refunded anything you may have already paid. Sadly, we have to do this in order to protect ourselves due to a history of many non-paying registrations. If there is some way we can work with you to get your payments in without canceling your reservation we are willing to work with you within the parameters the campground gives us to pay them. Contact us. We can’t help you if we don’t know you need/want it.

Families are required to sign and return Hold Harmless Agreements with the campground and with FIRE Camp before camp begins. We must have the full name and address for each person in your group for insurance purposes. (example: Mom, Dad, children and Grandparents that do not live with you.)

Some of the policies of the campground include:

Modest dress: no speedos or bikinis etc.
Smoking in designated areas only ( FIRE camp request: Please be respectful to other families and do not smoke near children.)
No pets.

Finalized details and schedule will be in your emailed newsletter in the beginning of August.

2010 FIRE Camp Activities

What we will offer will depend completely on the love offerings given in advance of camp. As offerings come in and events are confirmed, we will list them here.

Events & Activities:

Speaker – Discussing Biblical Priorities

Dowel Rod Drama – A presentation in music and dance by the older children.  Meeting daily to practice.

Devotionals – Time away to share the Word and our hearts.

Worship – Meets each morning for a time of worship and praise.

Board Games – A fun time each day to just relax with family and friends both new and old.

Plaster – We know you can’t resist another plaster project. We believe that the plaster is like the fishes and loaves in the Bible…it never runs out.

Other possible Space & Sky activities we would like to do as funds permit:
Mini hot air balloons
Sundial

If donations allow, we are hoping to have a main event project of building telescopes. This is how the main event project works. Groups of 10+ children and an adult work together to build it. At the end of camp we hold a silent auction and the highest bidder for each project wins and gets to take it home. The money goes right back into camp. Our family makes no profit. We even pay our own room and board.

Please do not wait to register. Events and activities are completely dependent on timely deposit payments and generous donations.

Spirit Led Homeschooling – Letting God Guide Your Journey

FREE E-BOOK!

Do you ever wonder if you are teaching your child what he or she needs to know? Do you feel frustrated because your day is not going the way you planned it? Do you feel as if you are the only homeschooling family that isn’t succeeding? Do you feel that your homeschooling is going perfectly, but there is a sense that something is missing?

Some times we can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of homeschooling that we forget what homeschooling is supposed to be about in the first place. We get busy with softball practice, music lessons, and making a great looking report card. We guilt trip ourselves because, “It works for Jane Doe in the support group, so it must work for me.”. In doing this we are neglecting to address the key element in homeschooling; that God has a plan for each our your children. From what to teach, how to teach it, when to teach and even when not to do anything, God wants to share with you the details of making your homeschool successful.

With Spirit Led Homeschooling you will learn the “What” & “Why” along with some motivational teaching ideas from Scripture. Also included are workbook pages to help guide you on your journey.

You can homeschool with peace & joy!

This book / Bible study calls you to seek God to find direction for each individual involved in your homeschooling journey…including you, the teacher.
This is not another curriculum style. As a matter of fact, just about any curriculum out there can be used….as long as it is in God’s plan for your child. This is about creating a lifestyle and environment that God can use to raise up the children He has graciously allowed us to have the blessing of loving.

Share in the journey of a homeschooling mother learning God’s plan for her family.

Note: Book is in PDF format. You will need a reader such as the FREE Adobe Reader to view it.
Thank you so much for looking. I pray you are blessed abundantly according to His riches and glory in Heaven!

May Your Homeschooling Journey Be Blessed.

This e-book is offered in PDF format but may not be reproduced or shared. Please send people to this site to download a copy for themselves. No part of the book may be reprinted, posted on a website, or shared without my express written consent.

While we offer this for free, if it blesses you, a donation would be welcomed to help offset our costs.
Please Note: There are no refunds given. We will gladly replace your download with another PDF version should your copy be faulty for any reason.

Student Statesmanship Institute

http://www.ssi-online.org/

From the SSI website:

The Seeds Are Sown
The Student Statesmanship Institute (SSI) is a dynamic Biblical worldview and leadership training program established by the Foundation for Traditional Values (FTV) to further the mission of affirming and restoring America’s Judeo-Christian heritage.
Through the years, thousands of adults benefited from FTV’s Greatest Story Never Told Seminars and materials, highlighting the central role played by Christian thought and ideas in the foundations of America. The fact that this nation has drifted far from those moorings over many decades makes it clear that restoring those moral foundations as a nation will be a long and incremental process.

The Birth of SSI
Where should this restoration start? With our own children, of course. As a direct response to requests from many parents, teachers and pastors, the Student Statesmanship Institute was launched to reach and train the next generation of American leaders.

TeenPact

http://www.teenpact.com/

From the Teen Impact website:
TeenPact is a comprehensive leadership experience that brings kids closer to Jesus Christ, makes them better leaders, and positions them to impact public policy in their state. During TeenPact, students meet important officials, interact with other like-minded students, and have more fun at the capitol than they could have ever imagined. Students leave inspired and challenged with an intensive desire to change America for Christ.

An Old Fashion Education

http://oldfashionededucation.com/

An Old Fashion Education is (according to their site) a directory of free homeschool curriculum. It is also one of my personal favorite sites. I can almost always find a resource through them. Their list of subjects is comprehensive and easy to use.

Not only are individual subjects plus complete curricula resources available, but they also have 40 week lesson guides for each grade level. You can teach your children practically for free! This is one homeschool resource no family should be without.
